Ben Homestay and Bali Bridge Project

Ben here is your place in this small hill village on Bali.

On the same road I found this road construction nearing completion. Nearly all the work is done by hand.

The road crew lives on the job.

Kubuki Sakti

Kubuki Sakti is our small homestay cottage about 1 kilometer up hill from Ubud, Bali. The family of artists here are preparing for a big island wide celebration on Thursday.

This is our host Wayang Lissi and one of the bamboo decorations for the coming festival.

This is the entrance to our cottage. We also have our own garden temple just for our cottage.

Inside the cottage.

View of gardens from cottage.

All this including breakfast for only $44/night.

Malang

Malang is a very comfortable university city in East Java. It is also our jumping off point for Mount Bromo. We had dinner in the old Dutch administration building on the city center park.

Coming of Age in Bali

Our guide, Sandy, has given us a very nice surprise on our last day together. We are at his aunt's home on Bali where Sandy's family is celebrating his nephew's coming of age with a light filing of his upper teeth, a ceremony, and a large family dinner party.

Dance

We were treated to a lovely garden dance performance by highschool students.
The lead dancer, Wendy, is a special friend who taught Ellen how to make Hindu blessings.

Fruit Bats of Bali

These lovely furry critters were hanging out near the road from north Bali to Sanur this afternoon.
