Hakuna Matata in Nairobi

Downtown Nairobi and the west side neighborhood, Karen, have a very relaxed mellow feel. The traffic can be very heavy at times, but it is surprisingly polite and calm. This neighborhood is named for the Danish writer Karen Blixen who lived here in the 1920s and 1930s. It was this place that she wrote about in her book "Out of Africa."

This second to the last day in Africa will be a busy one for me. I start off at the Karen Blixen home on a small portion of her 6000 hectare coffee farm.

I asked my guide how Karen and her husband, the Swedish Count, came by their land. He said the grabbed it at no cost to them. They employed 700 at slave wages.

A thrush that looks much like the American Robin.

Some small finches I think.

Female and male Sun Birds.
