This is my tent mate on the safaris, Shamus. Shamus and I could hardly understand each other's accent so we go on very well!
As you can see this males head is huge. The giraffe's heart is also huge and powerful in order to pump a large blood supply to its brain about 7 feet above its heart. The docent told us that they can not sleep with their heads down but must always keep their necks erect or they will have heart failure.
There is a reason for this kissing session. One of the trainers has just told me in answer to my question about feeding on thorny acacia. The giraffe's
tongue does get punctured by the thorns. Because of this there saliva has extraordinary healing qualities. So I am getting an inoculation!
That place is incredible! Instead of flu shots we should all get the Giraffe treatment! LOL!
