Bogor the city Of Ellen's father.

Today we hired a driver and car to take us to the city of Bogor about 30 miles south of Jakarta in the mountains. It was refreshing to leave the smog of Jakarta behind and see the blue sky again.
In this post I will show you the people and friends we made in the huge botanical gardens on a Sunday morning. Our driver, we call him Juice Man beccase that is what his name sounds like in Indonesian, made very good time and got us to the gate of the park in one hour.
Just inside the gate the wonderful Indonesian people came to us from all sides of the trrail wanting to take our photo and to have a photo together. This large family group from several islands of Indoneesia made us stop near their picnic.

From here we wandered through all the different gardens from all the tropical areas of the world. In the next blog I will show you the plants and animals we found in the park.

Here we found groups scattered all through the trees after we had a delicious lunch in the Park Cafe.

As wee leave the park I found Ellen bargaining for 1 kilo of mangos for the equivalent of $2.50.

That is our car just past Ellen.

  1. I am curious if the colonial name Buitenzorg, meaning without worries, is still known or has disappeared. During the time my father lived there Bogor was the part of Buitenzorg adjacent to the palace. During the Japanese occupation, who promoted nationalist, anti Dutch sentiment, among the local population, the city was given the name Bogor (sugar palm) It looks like a wonderful place still today. I hope you were able to visit some of the town where our family lived.
