Jakarta

Wow, after the 19+ hour flight from Portland, Oregon - San Francisco - Hong Kong - Singapore - Jakarta we are in this wonderful crazy city of 10 million +. Now we are off on our first morning to North Jakarta and Sunda Kelapa, this islands ancient sea port and village, still a working thriving village, Kampung, surrounded by freeways and toll roads.

This is one entrance to the port a village seen from the top of the watch tower.

This woman brought her grandchildren over to Ellen and asked her to take a photo.

We walked down this small maze of streets and canals to the sea.
We were greeted by friendly families and merchants.
These ships are being loaded often by hand up these treacherous narrow gang planks.

Sadly this port is so polluted that not one gull or marine bird was to be seen.
