Mount Bromo

In the mountains of east Java we are about to see the active volcano Mount Bromo. Our hotel room is on a ridge about 10000 feet above this Sea of Sand, actually a sea of volcanic ash. The huge Mount Bromo is gone leaving a cráter of several thousand acres with several 1000 foot high new volcanos.
So first we hike across this sea of sand.




Then instead of climbing out of the sea of sand we hire Java ponies to ferry us to the foot of the stairs.




These we climb, no mean effort, to the top.




And here is the volcano napping until it´s next eruption.
